I’ve nominated myself for Cootharinga’s CEO CHALLENGE 2018 MACKAY to raise vital funds and awareness for people with a disability in our local community. Cootharinga North Queensland has supported our community for decades and I’m very happy to challenge myself and give back to them.
With the wonderful fundraising support of my friends and family, supporters and work colleagues, I’m putting my ego on the line for this good cause. And, yes, I’ve already started to practice how I will ‘walk on water’!
In the past, I’ve climbed Mt Kilimanjaro, trekked the Inca Trails to Machu Picchu, and completed a 14,000ft skydive for charity, so I’m always up for a challenge!
I’m the Labor candidate for the seat of Dawson for the upcoming Federal election. I was humbled to be preselected, because I know just how important it is to have a representative who will work every day to make sure that the people of Dawson get a fair go, and that there are many challenges to being a Federal Member of Parliament.
I’ve spent a good part of the last 20 years of my life devoted to serving our community. Through my work as the Manager of Mackay Funerals and Sarina Funerals, or as a support worker for the Samaritan House Women’s Domestic Violence Shelter in Mackay, I’m passionate about helping the most vulnerable people in our region. I’m also really proud to have volunteered with a number of great local community groups, like the Domestic Violence Resource Service and Qld Cancer Council, to name just a few. I’m also currently the President of the Sarina Lions Club, Treasurer of the Zonta Club of Mackay, and Past President of the Rotary Club of Mackay Sunrise.
I want to use my professional experience and education in Community Service to stand up and fight for our community about important issues, like providing secure local job opportunities, and delivering top class education and healthcare services to our region.
